A cosy atmosphere comes alive at the leisure park at Rasun di Sopra, against the majestic backdrop of the 3000-metre peaks of the Vedrette di Ries: flickering torches, warm candlelight and the aroma of traditional delicacies such as stick bread, Tirtlan, Strauben and apple tarts create an atmosphere that touches the heart and soul. Even St Nicholas himself makes an appearance, bringing smiles to faces young and old. There’s no stress or hurrying here. That is what makes this Christmas market in the idyllic Valle di Anterselva a true hidden gem – a small treasure that delights with its authentic and peaceful charm.
A visit to San Candido during the festive season immediately reveals the town’s special charm. In the picturesque pedestrian zone around St Michael’s Church, time seems to slow, offering more room for wonder and enjoyment. I sink into one of the comfortable armchairs, letting the tranquillity of this place wash over me. Here at the Mirabell, Christmas is not just a celebration – it’s a feeling, one of comfort and belonging. At the festive dinner, this feeling grows even stronger. The aroma of South Tyrolean specialities fills the room, while the soft clinking of glasses, the laughter of other guests, and Christmas songs in the background create an atmosphere that touches the heart. After dinner, I look outside at the starry sky. The snow glistens in the moonlight, and in the distance, the gentle strains of “Silent Night” can be heard. I breathe deeply, letting the moment linger within me. …
